Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
We’re so excited to have our favorite people joining us in Addis Ababa!
This section has everything you’ll need to plan your trip — flights, places to stay, and local tips to make things easy once you arrive. Whether it’s your first visit or a return home, we can’t wait to share this celebration (and a little piece of Ethiopia) with you!
Addis Ababa is served by Bole International Airport (ADD) — the main hub for flights into Ethiopia.
From Boston:
The most convenient option is Ethiopian Airlines, offering a one-stop route from Boston via Washington D.C. or New York (JFK).
Other major airlines, including Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, and Emirates, also offer connecting routes through Europe or Dubai.
Tips:
Book early for the best rates — January is travel season. Plan to arrive in Addis by Friday at the latest, giving you time to rest and enjoy the city before the Sunday wedding.
Where to stay
We recommend booking your stay in the Bole area of Addis Ababa — a lively, safe, and convenient neighborhood that’s perfect for visitors. It’s close to the airport, filled with great restaurants, cafes, and shops, and just a short drive from most of the wedding events.
Bole offers a wide range of hotels at different price points — from luxury stays to comfortable boutique options — so there’s something for everyone. Most hotels in the area provide airport pickup upon request, and you’ll find everything you need within walking distance or a quick ride away
Getting Around
Addis is an active and easy city to navigate, with several good transportation options. Ride apps like Ride and Feres work just like Uber and are the easiest way to get from place to place. You can also use hotel-arranged drivers or taxis for short trips.
Transportation will be coordinated for the main wedding events, and most hotels in the Bole area are within a quick drive or short walk of restaurants and cafés.
Visa & Entry
Most guests will need a visa to enter Ethiopia, but the process is simple. You can either apply online before travel or get your visa upon arrival at Bole International Airport.
Option 1: eVisa (Recommended)
Apply online at evisa.gov.et
Apply at least 1–2 weeks before your flight to avoid delays
Keep a printed or digital copy of your approval to present at immigration
Option 2: Visa on Arrival
Available for most nationalities at Addis Ababa’s Bole International Airport (ADD)
Bring your passport (valid for at least 6 months) and payment for the visa fee
Helpful Tips:
Save your hotel address and return flight info — immigration may request it.
Most visitors are granted a 30-day stay, with extensions available in-country.
