Full Day program
Morning – Family Blessings & Arrival
The day begins at the bride’s and groom’s individual homes, where family and friends gather early to help them prepare for the celebration ahead. The groom receives heartfelt blessings from his parents and elders before setting off for the bride’s home — joined by his groomsmen, friends, and the lively rhythm of a small music band.
Upon arrival, the groom’s group is greeted by the bride’s family and bridesmaids with joyful songs. A playful push-and-shove ceremony follows — a symbolic tug-of-war meant to keep the groom from entering too easily. Amid the cheers and dancing, the groom is eventually “allowed in” to greet his bride. After sharing a light meal and receiving family blessings, the wedding party will head out for a photo program.
Photo Program – Mesk
After the lively morning festivities, the bride and groom head out with their wedding party for the photo program, known as Mesk.
Meanwhile, family and guests begin gathering at the reception venue, ready to welcome the newlyweds in true Ethiopian style.
Ceremony and Reception
As evening falls, the celebration begins. The bride and groom will arrive to a wave of cheers, music, and dancing. Surrounded by family and friends, the night unfolds in true Ethiopian fashion, filled with good food and endless dancing.

During the Kelekel, the couple receives blessings from their loved ones as everyone comes together one last time to celebrate love, unity, and family before life begins to settle into its next chapter.

We’re so excited to have our favorite people joining us in Addis Ababa!
This section has everything you’ll need to plan your trip — flights, places to stay, and local tips to make things easy once you arrive. Whether it’s your first visit or a return home, we can’t wait to share this celebration (and a little piece of Ethiopia) with you!
Addis Ababa is served by Bole International Airport (ADD) — the main hub for flights into Ethiopia.
From Boston:
The most convenient option is Ethiopian Airlines, offering a one-stop route from Boston via Washington D.C. or New York (JFK).
Other major airlines, including Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, and Emirates, also offer connecting routes through Europe or Dubai.
Tips:
Book early for the best rates — January is travel season. Plan to arrive in Addis by Friday at the latest, giving you time to rest and enjoy the city before the Sunday wedding.
Where to stay
We recommend booking your stay in the Bole area of Addis Ababa — a lively, safe, and convenient neighborhood that’s perfect for visitors. It’s close to the airport, filled with great restaurants, cafes, and shops, and just a short drive from most of the wedding events.
Bole offers a wide range of hotels at different price points — from luxury stays to comfortable boutique options — so there’s something for everyone. Most hotels in the area provide airport pickup upon request, and you’ll find everything you need within walking distance or a quick ride away
Getting Around
Addis is an active and easy city to navigate, with several good transportation options. Ride apps like Ride and Feres work just like Uber and are the easiest way to get from place to place. You can also use hotel-arranged drivers or taxis for short trips.
Transportation will be coordinated for the main wedding events, and most hotels in the Bole area are within a quick drive or short walk of restaurants and cafés.
Visa & Entry
Most guests will need a visa to enter Ethiopia, but the process is simple. You can either apply online before travel or get your visa upon arrival at Bole International Airport.
Option 1: eVisa (Recommended)
Apply online at evisa.gov.et
Apply at least 1–2 weeks before your flight to avoid delays
Keep a printed or digital copy of your approval to present at immigration
Option 2: Visa on Arrival
Available for most nationalities at Addis Ababa’s Bole International Airport (ADD)
Bring your passport (valid for at least 6 months) and payment for the visa fee
Helpful Tips:
Save your hotel address and return flight info — immigration may request it.
Most visitors are granted a 30-day stay, with extensions available in-country.

Hotels and Accommodations

For convenience, we recommend staying in or around Bole, one of the city’s most vibrant and accessible areas. It’s close to the airport, full of great cafés and restaurants, and just a short ride from most event venues.
That said, Addis has plenty of beautiful neighborhoods and hotels to choose from — ranging from boutique stays to full-service resorts. You’ll find excellent options across the city to fit every preference and budget.
A Note from Us
We encourage you to stay wherever feels right for you — Bole is just one of many great areas. If you’d like a personal recommendation or help choosing a place to stay, please feel free to reach out. We’d be happy to help!
